StyleWeek Season 7: Installation by Phil Shaw

You can always count on StyleWeek to bring our audience something new and innovative. For season 7 we brought the exciting work of conceptual artist Phil Shaw to Providence. He showed our guests a highly energetic and memorable performance that explores how outsiders contemplate the idea of POP through fashion and movement.  In his own words, Phil Shaw states: “The Philosophy of Andy Warhol’s Son is an exploration of my mind, my thoughts, and how I see style and fashion. Through my lens, the intention was to show people what would happen when alien invaders came to Earth in an attempt to understand the idea and ideals of POP. I was inspired by “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, Punk culture, POP culture, and artists that drive what I consider relevant such as Warhol, Scooter LaForge, Jeff Koons, Marina Abramovic, and the DADAists. Dance 2 Save served as my models, muses, and performers. The performance was choreographed by Erika Reichert, the hair by Salon Beautopia, and the makeup by Lauren Shaw.Through the performance and the artXapparel I am able to explore the idea of Andy Warhol being my Pop, because after all, I am his son.”
