StyleWeek Through My Eyes (via Instagram)

Most people have a misconception of what it’s like to work in fashion.  Despite what you see during StyleWeek, it’s not ALL glitz and glamour– it’s hard work coupled with long nights (and yes, some glitz and glamour sprinkled in there too!)  So I’m here to show you a “day in the life” with me– an inside look beyond the runway with the help of my trusty friend, Instagram.

The calm before the storm
I’m Stefanie Emond, Director of Designer Acquisition and Management for StyleWeek Northeast.  To sum up my position, I find the designers to show each season and serve as their go-to girl for anything they need (It’s really much, much more than that, but we’ll get to that some other time).

Ever wonder what happens when StyleWeek ends? Meetings, meetings, meetings.  There are a million moving parts that work together to produce what you see when you attend StyleWeek.  For me, designer acquisition is a top priority.  I love talking with potential designers and learning about their aesthetic and what inspires them.  Below is a photo of designer and RISD grad Kelly Zogheb showing off her past designs and portfolio full of sketches and inspiration photos for her first collection with us. Her vision was so clear, and her passion was unmistakable.

And this was the final product (which was stunning by the way!)…

Not only do I work in designer acquisition, I’m also head stylist for the company.  I work along side designer and StyleWeek Creative Director, Jonathan Joseph Peters to produce the photos you see on our marketing material each season.  Jonathan is a creative GENIUS.  I’m constantly learning something new when I work with him.  What’s my favorite part about working at StyleWeek? This.

If you’re looking for me during the week, chances are I’m holding it down backstage.  It’s a whole other world behind those curtains– models, press, and interns running around everywhere, incredibly talented hair and makeup artists working tirelessly to create the looks you see every night, designers ironing, organizing, sewing, and styling.  To me, this is the most exciting, interesting place to be.

The runway from my perspective
With an industry like fashion, no two days are the same.  Things are constantly changing and evolving, and every season brings new challenges, opportunities, and connections.  There is, however, one thing that always remains the same.  At StyleWeek, we are a family.  Spend enough time together and you’ll learn to like each other, right? Just kidding!  Some of my favorite memories involve this crew, and I’m looking forward to another crazy season together!

See you in January!!
xo Stefanie
